An even grey lid over the water, with a whisper of wind from the SW with a settled glass. On Lac Ecrin, work the margins and the shelf beyond them first. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, is where Lac Ecrin sits. The bank is 363 metres above sea level. 67 km away sits Val-d'Or, the nearest town. It is 272 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. Within a short drive: Lac Salival at about 0.8 km, Lac Noyal a touch under 1 km, Lac Taret at about 1.5 km, Lac Lavis a touch under 1.8 km and Lac Ocana at about 1.9 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Abitibi-Témiscamingue records list northern pike, yellow perch and walleye among the fish reported. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Lac Ecrin the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -16°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Lac Ecrin rarely departs from it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Failing this one, try Lac Salival, 0.8 km away. For Lac Ecrin, the notice at the access point is the final word.
