A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with enough SW wind to stack food downwind with the barometer flat. On Lac du Sauvage, work windblown banks where food collects first. Quiet conditions all day, with the morning marginally better. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today.

The Nord-du-Québec end of Quebec holds Lac du Sauvage. The bank gives way to taiga. Chibougamau at 23 km is the nearest place to stop. Beyond it, Chapais at 40 km and Mistissini at 60 km. Near neighbours: Lac Chevrillon 10 km, Lac Gignac out at 14 km, Lac Claude 15 km, Lac Noel out at 16 km and Lac Elaine 19 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records held for Nord-du-Québec cover Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Fish Lac du Sauvage to its features, not to its size.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -20°C on the long-run figures. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac du Sauvage.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Lac Chevrillon, 10 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Lac du Sauvage as something to verify.
