Solid cloud cover today, with light air out of the S with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Lac du Hibou should come off the margins and the shelf beyond them. A tough forecast; the evening offers the only real chance. Save the long walk for a better forecast. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac du Hibou sits in Côte-Nord, out in Quebec. It lies 368 metres above sea level. At some 1.01 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. Around 7.2 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. Port-Cartier lies 111 km from the water. Then Saint-Alexandre, 112 km, and Baie-Comeau, 113 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. County-wide records name logperch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Take Lac du Hibou a stretch at a time.
Between January at about -19°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around mid May and starts locking again about early November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. At Lac du Hibou the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Should this one be busy, Lac Omer is 2 km off. Where Lac du Hibou is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
