No direct sun expected today, with a soft S wind with the glass holding level. The fish at Lac Beluga are likely to sit near the calm side of the wind. Numbers are low everywhere; the evening is the pick of them. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

The Côte-Nord end of Quebec holds Lac Beluga. It sits at 420 metres above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 2.41 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. At about 9.6 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. Few waters listed in Côte-Nord are bigger. Port-Cartier sits 103 km from the bank. Beyond it, Saint-Alexandre at 103 km and Baie-Comeau at 113 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Lac Beluga that means starting tight and working out.
Climate normals give 15°C for July and -19°C for January. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid May. Climate averages put the opening at about mid May and the closing near early November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Anyone fishing Lac Beluga regularly works to that calendar.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is Lac Madame, 5.3 km out. Where Lac Beluga is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
