Flat light and a covered sky today, with a light chop building from the WSW with a settled glass. Give any hard bottom among the soft the first hour at Lac du Dos d'Ane. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac du Dos d'Ane is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. The water sits 265 metres up. Roughly 20 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge runs 3.0 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Albanel lies 45 km from the water. The big place round here is Saguenay, 138 km distant. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth figures are not published for this one. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac du Dos d'Ane repays a walk before the first cast.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -20°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. That is the shape of the year on Lac du Dos d'Ane.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Mithe sits 2.3 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position at Lac du Dos d'Ane before loading the car.
