An even grey lid over the water, with a gentle ripple from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Lac du Cordon should come off the margins and the shelf beyond them. The morning carries the best of the day. Ride the conditions while they last. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Set in Laurentides, Lac du Cordon is a Quebec water. The surface lies 444 metres up. At 5 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Some 14 km away sits Mont-Tremblant, the nearest settlement. Further out sit Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm (19 km) and Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts (20 km). No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. At Lac du Cordon the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Between January at about -14°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. On Lac du Cordon the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Paquette sits 1.8 km off and takes the overflow. For Lac du Cordon, the notice at the access point is the final word.
