Flat light and a covered sky today, with dead-still conditions and pressure going nowhere. On Lac du Chevreuil, work the shaded margin through bright spells first. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac du Chevreuil sits in Outaouais, out in Quebec. Height above sea level is 364 metres. At roughly 3 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Our Outaouais list holds plenty of bigger water. Head to Wakefield, 19 km away, for anything you forgot. Val-des-Monts lies 26 km off, Cantley another 31 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Anyone new to Lac du Chevreuil should walk it once before setting up.
Temperature averages peak at 19°C in July and bottom out at -13°C in January. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Climate figures give an open season running late April to early December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. The season on Lac du Chevreuil rarely departs from it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Should this one be busy, Lac McArthur is 0.9 km off. Check the position on Lac du Chevreuil before loading the car.
