A closed sky with even light today, with hardly a ripple anywhere with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Lac du Castor should come off the weed line and any gaps in it. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

This water sits in Mauricie, Quebec. Beyond the shoreline you have spruce and muskeg. With some 41 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 3.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Few waters listed in Mauricie are bigger. The closest town, Manawan, is 43 km distant. Further out sit Weymontachie (47 km) and Leblanc (88 km). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout and walleye among the fish reported. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Lac du Castor repays a walk before the first cast.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -16°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. It holds true on Lac du Castor more years than not.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Tent at 2 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lac du Castor in what we hold.
