A closed sky with even light today, with almost no wind to speak of with the barometer flat. Start the search at Lac du Castor along reed fringes and open pockets. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac du Castor is one of the Laurentides listings for Quebec. It sits at 290 metres above sea level. About 5 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Rivière-Rouge lies 16 km from the water. Labelle follows at 20 km, then Mont-Tremblant at 27 km. Water in the same corner: 1.2 km out stands Lac Sapin, Lac Reville after 2.8 km, 2.9 km out stands Lac Senas, Lac des Sucreries after 3.7 km and 3.9 km out stands Lac Kerr. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Laurentides records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Treat Lac du Castor as a water to read rather than to cover.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -15°C at the bottom of winter. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. That shapes the year on Lac du Castor.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac Sapin is 1.2 km off. Treat Lac du Castor as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
