An even grey lid over the water, with light air out of the SSW with the barometer flat. Start the search at Lac du Caribou along inflow corners and shaded margins. The forecast is against you; the evening is the least bad option. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac du Caribou is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean listings for Quebec. The surface lies 615 metres up. Roughly 11 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Bank access stretches around 1.8 km in total. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. Saint-Honoré sits 55 km from here and is the nearest stop. Beyond it, Saint-Ambroise at 62 km and Saint-Fulgence at 62 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac du Caribou gives up more to patience than to distance.
Climate records put July near 15°C and January near -19°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Look for the thaw near mid May; the fishing lifts straight after. Break-up near mid May, freeze-up near early November: that is the shape of an average year. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Plan any trip to Lac du Caribou around it.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac de la Brosse sits 0.7 km off and takes the overflow. Rules at Lac du Caribou are worth checking on the day.
