Changeable light under scattered cloud, with a whisper of wind from the SSW and steady pressure. On Lac du Canard, work structure within a cast of the bank first. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac du Canard sits in Outaouais, out in Quebec. The surface lies 275 metres up. It covers about 10 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Around 1.7 km of margin, front to back. Deep River sits 18 km from the bank. Chalk River follows at 19 km, then Petawawa at 26 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Outaouais cover pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Work Lac du Canard in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The seasonal spread runs -14°C to 18°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. That is the shape of the year on Lac du Canard.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac Rainville is 1.5 km off. Confirm before you fish Lac du Canard.
