A grey, even sky over the water, with a gentle ripple from the S and pressure going nowhere. Give the margins and the shelf beyond them the first hour at Lac Donald. Numbers are low everywhere; the evening is the pick of them. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Night
Quebec holds Lac Donald, in Côte-Nord. This is boreal forest country. At 2 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Our Côte-Nord list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest place of any size is Hauterive, 25 km away. Chute-aux-Outardes follows at 28 km, then Baie-Comeau at 30 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The near bank of Lac Donald is often the one people ignore.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Plan any trip to Lac Donald around it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Manu at 0.5 km is the sensible second choice. Confirm before you fish Lac Donald.
