Flat light and a covered sky today, with a gentle ripple from the S with a settled glass. Give the margins and the shelf beyond them the first hour at Lac Jean. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Jean is a Côte-Nord water, Quebec side. The shore lies 20 km out. Around 71 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. At about 7.1 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. The town to know is Hauterive, 28 km out. Saguenay sits 214 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Fish Lac Jean where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -16°C in January. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Lac Jean rarely departs from it.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac Mouron at 2.2 km is the sensible second choice. Ask locally about Lac Jean if anything is unclear.
