A grey, even sky over the water, with a stiffish breeze from the SSW with the barometer flat. On Lac Diane, work the margins and the shelf beyond them first. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec is where Lac Diane sits. Everything around it is boreal forest. Small at around 9 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Normandin is the closest town at 50 km. For a city, Saguenay is 158 km off. Not far off: Lac du Tison after 0.6 km, Lac du Male roughly 1.4 km, Lac Arel after 1.4 km, Lac Lafrance roughly 2.2 km and Lac Mata after 2.4 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The near bank of Lac Diane is often the one people ignore.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -18°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. That shapes the year on Lac Diane.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is Lac du Tison, 0.6 km out.
