Dull, settled light over the water, with a kind S breeze on the water with a settled glass. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Lac des Syrphes. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Within Laurentides, Quebec, you have Lac des Syrphes. Everything around it is rolling bush. Surface area runs to about 2 hectares — small enough to read in one session. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Laurentides. Some 32 km away sits La Minerve, the nearest settlement. The big place round here is Orléans, 92 km distant. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Laurentides records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass among the fish reported. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. The shape of Lac des Syrphes decides where the fish sit.
Long-term averages put July at about 18°C and January near -14°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. The season on Lac des Syrphes rarely departs from it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Samoisette sits 0.5 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac des Syrphes in what we hold.
