Flat light and a covered sky today, with a faint SSW drift and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac des Scarabees along the calm side of the wind. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac des Scarabees is an Outaouais water, in Quebec. The ground round it is pine and birch. The town to know is Saint-Boniface, 79 km out. Then Ferme-Neuve, 84 km, and Maniwaki, 91 km. Also worth knowing: Lac des Patineurs at 1.6 km, Lac des Rainettes at about 2 km, Lac Oursin at 2.1 km, Lac de la Lamproie at about 2.2 km and Lac Ophiure at 2.7 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac des Scarabees responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The year swings from about -17°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. The lid tends to go about early May and return around late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Anyone fishing Lac des Scarabees regularly works to that calendar.
Our records carry no access rule either way. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Lac des Patineurs is 1.6 km off. For Lac des Scarabees in particular, ask before you travel.
