A grey, even sky over the water, with the surface near flat and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Lac des Salicaires should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac des Salicaires lies in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. What surrounds it is lake country bush. With some 11 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 1.3 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Some 98 km away sits Val-d'Or, the nearest settlement. Malartic is 109 km and Notre-Dame-du-Lac 124 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Work Lac des Salicaires in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -16°C for January. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. At Lac des Salicaires the season follows that pattern closely.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. If the gate is shut, Lac Arget at 0.8 km is the nearest alternative. The position on Lac des Salicaires is worth confirming on the day.
