A grey, even sky over the water, with a soft S wind and no real change in pressure. Activity on Lac des Ronces should centre on bays that hold the day's warmth. The day peaks in the morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

In Quebec, Lac des Ronces falls inside Mauricie. The surroundings are lake country bush. This is a pocket water of some 3 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Mauricie. Nearest town is Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, 40 km off. It is 75 km to Trois-Rivières, the nearest city. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. The shape of Lac des Ronces rewards a slow walk along one bank.
The year swings from about -15°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Plan around that when you fish Lac des Ronces.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Lafond at 1.6 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Lac des Ronces as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
