A grey, even sky over the water, with a light SW breeze and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Lac des Pies de Camp should be near the shaded margin through bright spells. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac des Pies de Camp is one of the Côte-Nord waters in Quebec. It lies 252 metres above sea level. At about 26 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 3.6 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The town to know is Saint-Alexandre, 50 km out. Port-Cartier is 50 km and Baie-Comeau 83 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Côte-Nord records list logperch among the fish reported. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Lac des Pies de Camp repays a walk before the first cast.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -16°C for January. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. That shapes the year on Lac des Pies de Camp.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac aux Ecureuils sits 1.4 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position at Lac des Pies de Camp before loading the car.
