A closed sky with even light today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SW and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac des Neiges along the shaded margin through bright spells. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

In Quebec, Lac des Neiges falls inside Abitibi-Témiscamingue. It stands 373 metres above sea level. About 5 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. On size it sits at the modest end of our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list. Deep River sits 62 km from here and is the nearest stop. The nearest city of size is Gatineau, 209 km away. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. The shape of Lac des Neiges rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Seasonal averages run from -14°C in January up to 18°C in July. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac des Neiges.
We hold no note on access for this one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Petit lac Russell, 1.1 km away.
