Heavy overcast holding through the day, with steady pressure of wind from the W and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lac de la Sterne along the seam between weed and open water. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

In Quebec, Lac de la Sterne belongs to Abitibi-Témiscamingue. The ground around here is pine and birch. Surface area is around 17 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. A shoreline of some 2.1 km keeps the choices simple. The nearest town is Deep River, 64 km away. Beyond it, Mattawa at 66 km and Chalk River at 74 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Lac de la Sterne gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The year swings from about -14°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Expect Lac de la Sterne to follow that timing.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Failing this one, try Lac Grant, 1.5 km away. For Lac de la Sterne, the notice at the access point is the final word.
