Solid cloud cover today, with a light chop building from the SE and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Lac des Iles should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Look for Lac des Iles in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. Tidal water begins 15 km from here. The nearest town is Saint-Honoré, 12 km away. For a city, Saguenay is 22 km off. Water in the same corner: Lac Daniel lies 1.3 km on, Lac Castor sits 1.9 km out, Lac Philippe lies 2.4 km on, Lac Maringouin sits 2.8 km out and Lac Montagnais lies 3.1 km on. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac des Iles gives up more to patience than to distance.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Anyone fishing Lac des Iles regularly works to that calendar.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. If the gate is shut, Lac Daniel at 1.3 km is the nearest alternative. For Lac des Iles, the notice at the access point is the final word.
