No direct sun expected today, with a soft SSE wind and pressure sitting still. Lac des Iles should fish best around any hard bottom among the soft today. A grinding day likely, with the evening worth the effort if any is. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac des Iles falls in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, part of Quebec. The setting is spruce and muskeg on every side. With some 34 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 4.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. On our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list it sits near the top for size. The town to know is Labrecque, 27 km out. For a city, Saguenay is 44 km off. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Lac des Iles gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -18°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. At Lac des Iles the season follows that pattern closely.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. The nearest alternative is Lac Travers, 1.3 km out. Treat Lac des Iles as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
