Storms in the forecast today, with mild air moving in from the S and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Lac des Galets around shallow cover and weed edges. The day peaks in the morning. Slow down and let the fish find the bait. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

The Mauricie entry here is Lac des Galets, in Quebec. Height above sea level is 299 metres. With some 12 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 1.5 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Start from Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, 47 km down the road. Shawinigan follows at 50 km, then Hérouxville at 52 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Lac des Galets repays a walk before the first cast.
In an average year July sits at 18°C and January at -15°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. At Lac des Galets the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Some banks are open only from a marked point. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac de la Sittelle, 2.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm access to Lac des Galets locally before you travel.
