Lac de la Sterne is one of the Mauricie listings for Quebec. The setting is pine and birch on every side. The water measures roughly 8 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Nearest town is Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, 47 km off. Shawinigan is 49 km away, with Hérouxville at 50 km. Within easy reach: Lac de la Mouette 0.5 km off, Lac de la Sittelle at 1.2 km, Lac du Roselin 1.5 km off, Lac Gaby at 2 km and Lac Lachance 2 km off. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. The shape of Lac de la Sterne rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Long-term averages put July at about 18°C and January near -15°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. On Lac de la Sterne the same rules apply, with local timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Failing this one, try Lac de la Mouette, 0.5 km away. Where Lac de la Sterne is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
