Fresh rain topping the water up today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Lac des Fourmis should come off structure within a cast of the bank. A long productive spell runs night into morning. Make the first hour count and build on it. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Mauricie end of Quebec holds Lac des Fourmis. The ground around here is mixed forest. It covers about 2 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Mauricie. La Tuque sits 56 km from here and is the nearest stop. Then Saint-Tite, 60 km, and Sainte-Thècle, 60 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. At Lac des Fourmis the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -15°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. The season on Lac des Fourmis follows the weather closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Hamel sits 0.5 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Lac des Fourmis may have changed since it was mapped.
