Overcast skies today, with a light chop building from the SSW with a settled glass. The productive water at Lac des Chutes will be around points where shallow meets deep. A stay-home graph, with the evening as the one excuse to go. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac des Chutes sits in Côte-Nord, out in Quebec. Tidal water begins 11 km from here. About 8 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. Nearest town is Baie-Comeau, 17 km off. Further out sit Hauterive (20 km) and Chute-aux-Outardes (32 km). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Côte-Nord records list logperch among the fish reported. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Lac des Chutes the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
In an average year July sits at 16°C and January at -15°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Time your trip to Lac des Chutes by conditions rather than dates.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac des Trois Pointes, 2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Lac des Chutes.
