Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with light air out of the SSW and the barometer holding steady. The water to cover at Lac des Cedres is sheltered bays and points. Quiet conditions all day, with the evening marginally better. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac des Cedres is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, in Quebec. The ground around here is spruce and muskeg. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. The closest town, Saint-Honoré, is 37 km distant. The big place round here is Saguenay, 48 km distant. Water in the same corner: Lac Saumon sits 1 km out, Lac du Mecreant at 1 km, Lac de la Cocotte sits 1.1 km out, Lac de l'Helice at 1.7 km and Lac Elan sits 1.8 km out. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lac des Cedres the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Temperature averages peak at 15°C in July and bottom out at -19°C in January. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. After mid May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Break-up sits around mid May on average, with the water closing again about early November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. That shapes the year on Lac des Cedres.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Saumon at 1 km is the sensible second choice. Confirm before you fish Lac des Cedres.
