A grey, even sky over the water, with a working SSW breeze and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac Delauniere is the first drop-off and weed lines. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Look for Lac Delauniere in the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean part of Quebec. It stands 248 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 11 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The whole outline is near 2.9 km, and most of it is walkable. Nearest place of any size is Chambord, 5.8 km away. Beyond it, Métabetchouan at 7.7 km and Desbiens at 12 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac Delauniere the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Between January at about -17°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. That shapes the year on Lac Delauniere.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. For a change of water, Lac Gagnon is 1.3 km distant. Check the current arrangement for Lac Delauniere.
