Flat light and a covered sky today, with a soft ENE wind and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Lac Brule is the seam between weed and open water. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Lac Brule falls in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, part of Quebec. Elevation runs to 239 metres. Around 17 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Shoreline comes to about 2.4 km, small enough to learn in a day. Some 3.7 km away sits Chambord, the nearest settlement. The big place round here is Saguenay, 74 km distant. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac Brule the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and January about -17°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Anyone fishing Lac Brule regularly works to that calendar.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Lac a l'Ours is 2.4 km off. Rules at Lac Brule are worth checking on the day.
