Rain on and off through the day, with just enough SSE wind to ripple the surface and the barometer holding steady. On Lac de la Ventouse, work points where shallow meets deep first. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the morning. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Set in Côte-Nord, Lac de la Ventouse is a Quebec water. It stands 493 metres above sea level. Roughly 24 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Around 2.9 km of margin, front to back. Godefroy lies 68 km from the water. Saguenay sits 373 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Côte-Nord: logperch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Lac de la Ventouse the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 14°C in July and bottoms out near -21°C in January. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Ice is part of the season here, ending near mid May. From about mid May to around early November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. At Lac de la Ventouse the season follows that pattern closely.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Lac Long, 1 km away. Confirm access to Lac de la Ventouse locally before you travel.
