Stars out and no cloud tonight, with a faint WSW drift with the glass holding level. The fish at Lac de la Sauvagine are likely to sit near shallow cover and weed edges. Plan around the stretch from the day. Keep moving until you find them. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

The Laurentides entry here is Lac de la Sauvagine, in Quebec. It lies 20 metres above sea level. With some 11 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. A shoreline of some 1.5 km keeps the choices simple. Oka lies 5.2 km from the water. Pointe-Calumet follows at 5.3 km, then Saint-Joseph-du-Lac at 6.8 km. The county line runs close by, so rules can change within a short drive.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Laurentides include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Lac de la Sauvagine fishes better once you know its edges.
The seasonal spread runs -11°C to 20°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid April. The open-water window runs from around mid April to about early December in an average year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Lac de la Sauvagine runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There are toilets mapped about 520 m away. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, La Grande Baie is 2.6 km distant. Rules at Lac de la Sauvagine are worth checking on the day.
