Soft grey light all day today, with a stiffish breeze from the SSW and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Lac de la Montagne should be near the shaded margin through bright spells. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Out in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, sits Lac de la Montagne. Taiga runs right down to the water. Small at around 5 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Start from Métabetchouan, 30 km down the road. It is 96 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. Within a short drive: Lac Emile at 0.8 km, Lac Adolph 1.3 km away, Lac Raquette at 1.6 km, Lac du Fond de Tente 1.7 km away and Lac Cageux at 2 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Work Lac de la Montagne in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -17°C in January. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Expect Lac de la Montagne to follow that timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Lac Emile is 0.8 km distant. Ask locally about Lac de la Montagne if anything is unclear.
