Solid cloud cover today, with a persistent wind from the SSW with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac de la Bete should be near any hard bottom among the soft. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac de la Bete stands in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. It sits at 358 metres above sea level. Start from Métabetchouan, 21 km down the road. After that come Chambord at 21 km and Roberval at 23 km. Also on the doorstep: Lac au Goeland near enough 1.3 km, Lac Bleu 1.5 km, Lac des Equerres near enough 3.2 km, Lac Baubert 3.3 km and Lac Brule near enough 3.6 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Lac de la Bete the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. That shapes the year on Lac de la Bete.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Lac au Goeland is 1.3 km off. Nothing on Lac de la Bete should be assumed from this page alone.
