Overcast skies today, with a useful S wind pushing food about with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Lac de la Belle Montagne should come off the weed line and any gaps in it. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Quebec holds Lac de la Belle Montagne, in Mauricie. The setting is northern bush. It runs to roughly 17 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Shoreline comes to about 2.6 km, small enough to learn in a day. Métabetchouan lies 41 km from the water. Saguenay is the closest city, 91 km away. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Lac de la Belle Montagne that means starting tight and working out.
Between January at about -17°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Anyone fishing Lac de la Belle Montagne regularly works to that calendar.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Bolduc at 1.7 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Lac de la Belle Montagne for certain.
