Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a firm S blow and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac Bolduc is reed fringes and open pockets. The strongest window runs from the day. Keep expectations modest and fish carefully. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Bolduc is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. It sits at 406 metres above sea level. At about 36 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. A shoreline of some 3.2 km keeps the choices simple. Size puts it in the front rank of our Mauricie list. Métabetchouan at 40 km is the nearest place to stop. Saguenay sits 91 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. At Lac Bolduc the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 17°C, while January sits near -17°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. That is the shape of the year on Lac Bolduc.
Our records carry no access rule either way. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Lac de la Belle Montagne, 1.7 km out. Signs at Lac Bolduc carry more weight than any list.
