An even grey lid over the water, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure going nowhere. On Lac Crescent, work the seam between weed and open water first. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Set in Laurentides, Quebec, this is Lac Crescent. The bank is 451 metres above sea level. Around 26 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The bank runs about 3.7 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. On our Laurentides list it sits near the top for size. The closest town, Ferme-Neuve, is 100 km distant. Gatineau is the closest city, 233 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged across Laurentides include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Lac Crescent the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -17°C on the long-run figures. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Lac Crescent runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Failing this one, try Lac Duncan, 1.3 km away. Check the position on Lac Crescent before loading the car.
