A closed sky with even light today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the S with the glass holding level. The productive water at Lac Cortes will be around the weed line and any gaps in it. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Laurentides, Lac Cortes is a Quebec water. The ground around here is lake country bush. It measures about 16 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Bank access stretches around 2.1 km in total. For a base, Rivière-Rouge sits 22 km out. After that come La Minerve at 22 km and Mont-Laurier at 33 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Laurentides cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The shape of Lac Cortes rewards a slow walk along one bank.
The year swings from about -14°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Hard water is a season in its own right here. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Lac Cortes follows the weather closely.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Fabre at 0.8 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Lac Cortes before loading the car.
