Soft grey light all day today, with a light chop building from the S and pressure going nowhere. Expect most activity at Lac Cook around the seam between weed and open water. The night is where the day comes good. Make the first hour count and build on it. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Cook lies within the bounds of Outaouais, Quebec. The setting is pine and birch. Surface area is around 44 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. You are looking at roughly 6.6 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Few waters listed in Outaouais are bigger. The town to know is Wakefield, 24 km out. After that come Val-des-Monts at 25 km and Cantley at 34 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Outaouais records list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. The near bank of Lac Cook is often the one people ignore.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 19°C, while January sits near -13°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about early December in an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Anyone fishing Lac Cook regularly works to that calendar.
We hold no note on access for this one. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Lac James at 1.4 km is the nearest alternative. Confirm access to Lac Cook locally before you travel.
