Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with light air out of the SSW with the glass holding level. On Lac Cloak, work the first drop-off and weed lines first. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Quebec holds Lac Cloak, in Outaouais. It sits at 244 metres above sea level. It measures about 10 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The full circuit measures close to 1.6 km on foot. Some 30 km away sits Shawville, the nearest settlement. The big place round here is Gatineau, 54 km distant. No border sits close enough to matter.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Outaouais list pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. At Lac Cloak the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Between January at about -13°C and July at about 19°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near early December: that is the shape of an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Lac Cloak runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. The nearest alternative is Lac a Roland, 1.2 km out. For Lac Cloak, the notice at the access point is the final word.
