Showers crossing the water today, with an easy breeze from the S and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Lac Clair should be near the margins and the shelf beyond them. Numbers are low everywhere; the evening is the pick of them. Lower the pace and stay patient. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

This water sits in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The setting is spruce and muskeg on every side. At about 26 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. With about 3.6 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. Nearest town is Sacré-Coeur, 68 km off. Saint-Fulgence follows at 69 km, then Les Escoumins at 72 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac Clair the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
July runs about 15°C on average, January about -18°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid May. Break-up near mid May, freeze-up near early November: that is the shape of an average year. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. At Lac Clair the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Tomahawk, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Lac Clair should be assumed from this page alone.
