Soft grey light all day today, with light air out of the S and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac aux Renards should be near the margins and the shelf beyond them. A hard day on paper; the evening edges the rest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Look for Lac aux Renards in the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 636 metres. It runs to roughly 24 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. There is roughly 3.3 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. Sacré-Coeur sits 64 km from the bank. Beyond it, Les Escoumins at 68 km and Saint-Fulgence at 70 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Take Lac aux Renards a stretch at a time.
Seasonal averages run from -18°C in January up to 16°C in July. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Ice-out usually falls in mid May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages suggest open water from about mid May through to roughly mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Expect Lac aux Renards to follow that timing.
Access is not recorded for this water. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. For a change of water, Lac de la Tete is 1.1 km distant. None of that is settled for Lac aux Renards in what we hold.
