A closed sky with even light today, with a working SSW breeze and no real change in pressure. On Lac Chantier, work windblown banks where food collects first. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Chantier is set in Lanaudière, Quebec. The country here is boreal forest. It runs to roughly 95 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. There is roughly 6.5 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. On our Lanaudière list it sits near the top for size. Manawan lies 23 km from the water. After that come Saint-Michel-des-Saints at 49 km and Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm at 78 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Lanaudière cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac Chantier the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Lac Chantier fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. You can camp about 340 m away, going by the mapping. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Lac Dore is 0.7 km distant. For Lac Chantier, the notice at the access point is the final word.
