Solid cloud cover today, with a firm SSW blow and no real change in pressure. Activity on Lac Brochet should centre on points where shallow meets deep. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

The Lanaudière end of Quebec holds Lac Brochet. Elevation runs to 460 metres. Surface area is around 12 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Manawan at 24 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Saint-Michel-des-Saints at 48 km and Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm at 77 km. Others within reach: Lac Dore near enough 0.9 km, Lac Colinee 1.3 km away, Lac Chantier near enough 1.6 km, Lac Boivin 1.9 km away and Lac du Cafe near enough 2 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Read Lac Brochet for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Lac Brochet runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Overnight stays are possible 590 m away. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. If the gate is shut, Lac Dore at 0.9 km is the nearest alternative.
