Lac Chamisso in Outaouais: How and When to Fish It

• Overview

  Lac Chamisso sits in Outaouais, out in Quebec. Lake country bush runs right down to the water. This is a pocket water of some 2 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. On size it sits at the modest end of our Outaouais list. Deep River lies 30 km from the water. Chalk River follows at 39 km, then Petawawa at 58 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.

• Where to Fish on Lac Chamisso

  No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Reported across Outaouais: pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Take Lac Chamisso a stretch at a time.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Seasonal averages run from -14°C in January up to 18°C in July. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. The season on Lac Chamisso rarely departs from it.

• Tackle & Baits

  Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status.
