An even grey lid over the water, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Lac Castor is the shaded margin through bright spells. A grinding day likely, with the evening worth the effort if any is. Scale down and fish slowly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean end of Quebec holds Lac Castor. It sits at 686 metres above sea level. The water measures roughly 6 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. It is high ground by Quebec standards. Head to Saint-Honoré, 23 km away, for anything you forgot. Saint-Fulgence lies 24 km off, Chicoutimi another 32 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Lac Castor repays a walk before the first cast.
Climate records put July near 15°C and January near -18°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near mid May. The season between ice runs from about mid May to early November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Lac Castor runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Leonce sits 1.7 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Castor for certain.
