An even grey lid over the water, with a light chop building from the SSE and no real change in pressure. Lac Castor should fish best around points where shallow meets deep today. A long productive spell runs night into morning. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

In Quebec, Lac Castor falls inside Mauricie. This is pine and birch ground. With some 35 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 4.4 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. On our Mauricie list it sits near the top for size. The nearest place of any size is La Tuque, 11 km away. Beyond it, Laurentides at 62 km and Weymontachie at 80 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout and walleye. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Lac Castor the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about late November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Expect Lac Castor to follow that timing.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Failing this one, try Lac Echo, 0.7 km away. None of that is settled for Lac Castor in what we hold.
