Solid cloud cover today, with a whisper of wind from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Lac Castor should come off the margins and the shelf beyond them. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Castor falls in Laurentides, part of Quebec. The land about it is mixed forest. Small at around 6 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. For supplies, Ferme-Neuve is 47 km out. Further out sit Mont-Laurier (64 km) and Manawan (72 km). Within easy reach: Petit lac Forgeron lies 0.9 km on, Grand lac Sapin near enough 1 km, Lac Loutre lies 1.8 km on, Lac Brignolet near enough 1.9 km and Lac Dombrowski lies 2.8 km on. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Laurentides include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Read Lac Castor before you fish it and the day goes better.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -16°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Time your trip to Lac Castor by conditions rather than dates.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Petit lac Forgeron sits 0.9 km off and takes the overflow. Confirm before you fish Lac Castor.
