Dull, settled light over the water, with a mirror surface most of the day and steady pressure. The productive water at Lac Castelle will be around the calm side of the wind. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

You will find Lac Castelle in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. It stands 390 metres above sea level. At 9 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Nearest town is Chibougamau, 83 km off. Saguenay is the closest city, 234 km away. Other water within reach: Lac Trange out at 1.1 km, Lac Mereuil sits 1.9 km out, Lac Pons out at 2 km, Lac Ligre sits 2 km out and Lac Theze out at 2.1 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lac Castelle a short move beats a long cast.
In an average year July sits at 16°C and January at -19°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. At Lac Castelle the season follows that pattern closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Trange at 1.1 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Castelle for certain.
