No direct sun expected today, with a mirror surface most of the day and no real change in pressure. Give the calm side of the wind the first hour at Lac Carotte. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Carotte lies in Lanaudière, Quebec. Land around it is taiga. At roughly 7 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Manawan is the closest place, 24 km off. Trois-Rivières is the closest city, 193 km away. Within a short run: Petit lac Namisas a shade over 1.8 km, Lac Bird out at 2.6 km, Petit lac Opwanaka a shade over 3.4 km, Lac Otcokorakici out at 3.6 km and Lac a la Culotte a shade over 3.6 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Reported across Lanaudière: pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Lac Carotte for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -16°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. It holds true on Lac Carotte more years than not.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Should this one be busy, Petit lac Namisas is 1.8 km off. Rules at Lac Carotte are worth checking on the day.
